We are often asked by Alteryx users the difference between using the Alteryx SAP HANA ODBC driver and the DVW Alteryx Connector for SAP. Our Alteryx Connector for SAP works with:
The Alteryx SAP HANA ODBC driver will allow you to connect directly to the HANA database and the tables in that database in a similar way to connecting directly to an Oracle database or a SQL Server database. From a governance perspective many IT departments will not allow any user to access the underlying database directly. Even more importantly, you do not have access to all of the IP that you may have already built up in your SAP BW systems. The DVW Alteryx Connector for SAP for example, allows you to execute SAP BW Queries directly from within Alteryx in the same way as you would execute a BEx Query. All the calculations and transformations are available to you immediately. Using the SAP HANA ODBC driver would allow you to extract data into Alteryx but then you would have to rebuild those Queries from within Alteryx. In addition to allowing you to execute BW Queries directly in Alteryx we also (subject to your SAP authorisations) allow you to access data from BW InfoProviders and BW Tables. Finally, but critically from a governance perspective, we respect the underlying authorisations in the SAP systems you connect to. This means that you will only have access to the Queries, InfoProviders and Tables that you are authorised to access. If in doubt, we recommend that you take a trial of the Alteryx Connector for SAP. We will assist you to install the software, ensure connectivity to your SAP systems and guide you through the initial stages of using the tool. To request a free trial, please click the button below.
