How Johnson & Johnson audits SAP at scale with Alteryx and the DVW Connector for SAP
The Global Audit and Assurance team at Johnson & Johnson set out to build one repeatable, scalable way to test SAP data for audit, instead of slow manual checks repeated system by system.
The challenge
A core audit control is segregation of duties: making sure no single person can both post and approve the same financial transaction. Testing that across dozens of SAP systems, regions, and controls by hand was slow and hard to repeat, and a single testing cycle could take more than a week.
The solution
The team built a single, repeatable process in Alteryx using the DVW Alteryx Connector for SAP. Data is refreshed automatically from 42 SAP systems and tested for segregation-of-duties conflicts. The work runs inside Alteryx under the team's existing SAP authorizations, and the same workflow documents exactly what was tested.
The outcome
Testing that used to take more than a week now runs in about 15 minutes. The process covers 4 regions, 54 finance controls, and 110 audit engagements, and it is fully scalable, so the same approach extends to more of the audit team's analytics.
